Siarhiej Vahanaŭ is a poet, journalist, grandfather of the Belarusian journalist Kaciaryna Andrejeva (Bachváłava).
Siarhiej Vahanaŭ was born in 1941 in Kazan during evacuation. In 1944, the mother returned to liberated Minsk with her young son.
After graduating from the Department of History of Belarusian State University, Siarhiej Vahanaŭ worked as a teacher in a village, then – in various positions in national newspapers, was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper „Trud in Belarus“.
Since the early 1990s and until recently, he actively cooperated with the Belarusian independent mass media. Author of three collections of poems, narratives, and essays.
One of the founders, member and chairperson of the Commission on Ethics of the Belarusian Association of Journalists, member of the Belarusian PEN Center and the Union of Belarusian Writers. Creates texts in Russian and Belarusian.
