Description
Marianna Kijanowska was born on November 17th, 1973 in Zhovkva, Ukraine. Writer, translator and connoisseur of literature. Graduated from the Department of Philology at Lviv National University named after I. Franko (1997). The author of poetry collections, collections of short stories and a large number of translations. Translates mostly poetry – from Polish, Lithuanian, Belarusian and Czech. Translations of poems by J. Tuwim, B. Lesman, Eugeniusz Tkaczyszyn, Adam Wiedemann, Bronka Nowicka, Szota Iataszwili, Marius Burokas, Gintaras Graiauskas, Dr Seuss, Borys Chersoński, Salim Babullaoglu and others were published as separate books. Member of the Ukrainian PEN, the National Union of Writers of Ukraine. The founder and director of the Velykyi Yizhak Literary Award for the best book in the Ukrainian language for children. Laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine (2020). She was awarded the honorary sign „Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej“ (2013). European poet of freedom-2022. Winner of the Zbigniew Herbert Literary Prize (2022). Lives in Lviv.
